Calotropis gigantea, commonly known as the "crown flower," is a medicinal plant widely distributed across tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa. This review summarizes the botanical characteristics, phytochemical constituents, traditional uses, and pharmacological activities of C. gigantea. It has diverse therapeutic effects including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, anti-diarrheal activity and wound-healing properties. Various parts of the plant leaves, latex, flowers, and roots have been employed in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda and Unani for treating ailments ranging from skin diseases to respiratory disorders.
