Azadirachtin (Dimethyl (2aR, 3S, 4S, 4aR, 5S, 7aS, 8S, 10R, 10aS,10bR)-10-acetoxy-3, 5-dihydroxy-4- [ (1S, 2S, 6S, 8S, 9R, 11S)-2-hydroxy-11-methyl-5, 7, 10-trioxatetracyclo [6.3.1.02,6 09,11]dodec-3-en-9-yl]-4-methyl-8- {[ (2E)-2-methyl-2-butenoyl]oxy}octahydro-1H-furo [3',4':4,4a]naphtho [1, 8-bc]furan-5,10a (8H)-dicarboxylate) it belongs to the family Meliaceae. Azadirachtin (AZA), a plant-derived substance is of unique chemical and biological interest. This substance is present in many Neem tree parts. (Seeds, callus, fruits and leaves). Major source of Azadirachtin is Azadirachta indica. Other than Azadirachtin Azadirachta indica contains nimbosterol, nimbdiol, nimbilin, nimolinin, nimbin, nimbidin. Azadirachtin possess different pharmacological activities such as antimalaria, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, Antifeedant, heart disease, blood disorder, Hepatoprotective Effect. There are various analytical methods have developed for the estimation of Azadirachtin such as TLC, UV, HPLC, HPTLC also LC-MS, HPLC-GLC. Moreover, various dosage form of Azadirachtin is mentioned.
